Lets talk about watering your orchids....

Watering your orchids can seem tricky and can depend on the potting medium, season, and also whether the orchid is growing or at rest.

If you don't want to overthink it, just water your orchids every 7-14 days.

My preferred way to water my orchids is to place the orchid under the faucet, or fill a large bowl of water and soak it, for about 30 seconds.

Some factors can affect how frequently you will water if you want to think more advance:

Medium - Spanish moss will hold water more than mulch. You may need to water less frequently if you have Spanish moss as your medium.

Season - In the Summer water more frequently, and in the Winter water less.

Growing/At rest - If the orchid is growing (new leaves, or new spikes [spikes are the stems the flowers grow on], or new blooms) 7 days. If the orchid is at rest, then water every 14 days.

Throughout the year I don't go longer than 2 weeks without watering, and typically I aim for 7-10 days in between watering.

In more dry climates, you may need to water more frequently.

Final notes:

Always check the potting medium for its moisture level before watering. If it feels moist then you can hold off watering it for a couple more days. Don't water the actual flowers/blooms, just the potting material and roots. Try to water in the morning so the orchid can dry out during the day in the sun. Overwatering can and will destroy your orchid - monitor for root rot or mold growing on your orchid's roots.
